Grand Slam Summary

Chicago Cup and Detroit Cup Summary:

We went into the Chicago event with great confidence as we had just come off two great wins in the Spring. Unfortunately, we went winless in the round-robin and as a result we were unable to qualify for the next stage of the event. This event was an eye opener in all respects, and we learned a lot. The level of competition that we were up against only made us better.

We were hoping to come out swinging in the Detroit Cup, however we still couldn't shake the monkey off our back in our first three races of the event and started 0-3. The first race against Will Tiller & Full Metal Jacket Racing wasn't a contest as we ran over a huge piece of grass and it could not be cleared from our keel. The next two races were close however we copped penalties in both and dropped two very close races against Laurie Jury and Chris Van Tol.

Fellow competitor Dave Perry spent a lot of his time after the first day of racing helping us identify our problems and keeping us focused on staying in the game. We owe Dave a great thanks, as his advice certainly paid off.

We quickly bounced back on day two of the Detroit Cup and won our first two races, one of them coming against the eventual winner of the event, Jordan Reece.

We then continued to lose our next five races in the same fashion as our previous losses. Unlike in Chicago, we were competitive and capable of winning each match.

We finally capped off the round robin by defeating 10th ranked Rueben Corbett and his Aon Racing team in a wildly exciting match.

We finished 10th out of 12 teams at the Detroit Cup, one point behind last year's winner Dave Perry.

Our next event is the Grade 3 U.S. Match Racing Championships in Newport Beach California.

You can't win them all......
